Helping Entrepreneurs Understand
Their Numbers for Over 30 Years
Greg Simons has always had an entrepreneurial spark.
“From a young age, I knew I wanted to run a business
someday,” he said. “My uncle Larry, who owned
a successful flooring business in Florida, told me
something that stuck with me: if you understand the
numbers, you will have a much better understanding of
the business.”
That simple advice guided Simons into accounting, and
eventually into starting his own firm.
After earning his accounting degree from Indiana
University, Simons worked at two Big Four accounting
firms, gaining experience and technical training that laid
a strong foundation. But auditing wasn’t his passion.
“I learned so much during those years, but I wanted
something more hands-on, where I could really help
business owners,” he said.
In 1995, he launched his own practice and shifted focus
toward controllership services for small businesses,
eventually expanding into tax and strategic advising. By
1999, the firm had grown, but Simons still felt something
was missing.
“I saw how hard it is to be a successful entrepreneur, and
I didn’t always have the answers they needed,” he said.
That led him to join Ran One, a national organization
teaching CPAs how to offer better business support to
clients. It was a turning point.

ASPIRE JOHNSON COUNTY, IN | 2025-26 BUSINESS GUIDE
“Books like The E-Myth Revisited and Good to Great
changed how we think. We started focusing on helping
clients succeed not just financially, but strategically.”
That philosophy still defines Simons Bitzer & Associates
today. “Most entrepreneurs don’t go into business to read
through financial statements,” Simons explained. “We
help them understand the numbers so they can spend
more time doing what they’re good at—and love to do.”
Simons’ office, located just off Emerson Avenue near
County Line Road, has become a hub for thoughtful
financial advising and collaborative problem-solving.
Simons attributes much of the firm’s success to the
support of the Johnson County and Southside business
community.
“Aspire has been incredible,” he said. “There’s
a real sense of collaboration here. I always feel
like I’m among friends.”
More than anything, Simons wants to build a firm that can
outlast him.
“If the people on our team are continually learning and
growing, our business will grow. My goal is to create a
self-managing firm that will continue to serve and lead—
long after I’m gone.”
