A recent Harris Poll commissioned by the Association of
Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) reaf昀椀rms the
vital role chambers of commerce play in driving economic
prosperity and supporting small businesses across the country.
Nearly half report that their business has been a chamber
member, with 31% currently active and 41% of non-members
considering joining. Top key motivators for membership
include business growth (51%), networking (40%), and
customer attraction (40%). Also mentioned were developing
workforce (24%), accessing training and professional
development opportunities (23%), and in昀氀uencing laws and
policies (19%).
“Business owners are recognizing that chambers of commerce
are not just about networking and economic growth. They’re
becoming essential partners in workforce development and
advocacy,” said Angela Vandersteen, Vice President of Investor
Development + Relations at Aspire.
“By joining Aspire, businesses can access vital training
opportunities, collaborate on workforce solutions, and
amplify their voices on critical issues,” said Vandersteen. “This
shift in how the business communities view our work and
value highlights the growing role chambers play in building
stronger, more competitive communities.”
“The poll’s 昀椀ndings assert the crucial role chambers of
commerce play for businesses, economies and communities,”
said Sheree Anne Kelly, ACCE president & CEO. “Chambers
are trusted and innovative organizations. As a result, we are
seeing tremendous momentum to bring even more bold
leadership and lasting impact on the communities we serve.”

ASPIRE JOHNSON COUNTY, IN | 2025-26 BUSINESS GUIDE
The poll revealed several important data points:
• 81% of adults consider their local chamber a reliable
resource for businesses.
• 88% believe chambers effectively address key community
challenges.
• 76% agree chambers are stewards of strong local
economies.
• 74% credit chambers with supporting job creation and
economic vitality.
• 64% of adults familiar with chambers are more likely to
patronize member businesses, and 63% are more likely to
recommend them to others.
• 70% of adults expressed interest in learning more about
their local chamber’s contributions, particularly in areas like
economic development and community impact.
Still, misconceptions persist: 63% of respondents were either
unsure or incorrectly believed chambers are government
entities. This highlights the need for continued public
education about the independent, community-based nature of
chamber organizations.
While chambers often collaborate closely with local and
state leaders, they remain non-governmental entities. Aspire
Johnson County stands out as a unique example: serving as
both the chamber of commerce and the state-designated local
economic development organization for Johnson County and
southern Indianapolis.
